  8. │ This record is a means of conveying information about a software   │

  99. and its features, along with instructions for its installation. Quite
  100. detailed documentation is included in the package, but it is in archived
  101. form, and is more easily read after installation.

  110. Infodex is a shareware program. You may use it for up to 2 weeks,
  111. without charge (see INFODEX.DOC for more details).  If you like the
  112. program, and wish to continue its use after this evaluation period, you
  113. are required to pay for the program (see REGISTER.DOC for more details).

  115. obtain this evaluation version was a fee for their copying and

  145. ===== Installation =====================================
  146.  
  147. The installation procedure for Infodex is quite simple.  The package
  148. includes a program, "INSTALL.EXE", which automates the entire process.
  149. You will need about 1 megabyte of available disk space on the hard drive
  150. on which you plan to install Infodex.
  151.  
  152. The exact steps you need to take will depend on how you received
  153. Infodex.
  154.  
  155.  
  156. INSTALLING FROM DISKETTES
  157.  
  158. To install from diskette(s), you need to perform the following steps.
  159.  
  160. 1. Place Infodex distribution diskette "Disk 1" in the appropriate
  161.    diskette drive.
  162.  
  163. 2. Execute the "INSTALL.EXE" program on the distribution
  164.    diskette.  For example, if the distribution diskette is on
  165.    drive A:, type the MS-DOS command, "a:install".
  166.  
  167. 3. Follow the instructions presented by the installation program. You
  168.    will have a chance to approve installation before any changes are
  169.    actually made to the contents of your hard drive. The program will
  170.    ask you for a destination directory, and will copy the Infodex files
  171.    to that directory.  If you received Infodex on two diskettes, you
  172.    will need to insert Disk 2 in the diskette drive when asked to do so.
  173.    If you so direct it, the installation program will install executable
  174.    programs and documentation in other directories of your choice.

  177. INSTALLING FROM A HARD DRIVE
  178.  
  179. If you downloaded Infodex from a BBS (or received it in the form of
  180. archive files from some other source), you will need to perform the
  181. following steps.
  182.  
  183. 1. Extract the contents of the archive file(s) in a temporary
  184.    directory on your hard drive.  The procedure for doing this
  185.    varies, depending on the form in which you received the
  186.    package. In all likelihood, the fact that you are reading
  187.    this text means that you already have the necessary tools and
  188.    knowledge to perform this step.  If not, you should be able
  189.    to obtain directions for this from the same source from which
  190.    you received the package.

  193. 2. Execute the "INSTALL.EXE" program which you have extracted.
  194.    For example, if the temporary directory into which you have
  195.    extracted the files is C:\TEMPDIR, you would execute the MS-DOS
  196.    command, "c:\tempdir\install".

  198. 3. Follow the instructions presented by the installation
  199.    program. You will have a chance to approve installation before any
  200.    changes are actually made to the contents of your hard drive.  The
  201.    installation program will ask you for a destination directory, and

  206. When you're satisfied that the installation was successful, you should
  207. delete the temporary directory FROM which you installed the program,
  208. (C:\TEMPDIR, in the above discussion), including all its contents.

  214. (filename extension "doc") which have been installed.  In particular,
  215. read at least the "Installation" section of the file INFODEX.DOC. That
  216. document will tell you how to invoke the program, and will give you
  217. other information you need to properly evaluate Infodex.  We hope you
  218. enjoy the program.
